kind of like chick lit but so much better because it turns chick lit on its head. Check out Kevin’s post: Have I mentioned lately that I have a book to peddle?.
If you need more encouragement, check out my reviews of Occasional Soulmates.
My standard, Amazon-style review.
My different (and favorite) kind of review.

Enter this contest for a chance to win Kevin Brennan’s latest novel, Occasional Soulmates!
Of course, you could do as I did and buy the book and then you wouldn’t need to enter the contest. In fact, if you buy the book now, you’ll probably get it before the contest closes on November 5. You might even read it before the contest closes. And then you will be very very glad that you went ahead and bought the book 🙂

When we were out West not too long ago (although now it seems like a dream), one of our closest friends gave us a gift. Our friend is Jennifer Ewing, an artist in mixed media as well as the fine arts. She and her husband Leo Germano are a dynamic duo in the Art world with their mural and fine art business that they started in 1989 as Ewing & Germano. Currently, Leo is developing his already awesome skills as a photographer, and Jennifer has branched out in workshops and events around her “Spirit Boat” series. Jennifer started this series soon after her father died in 2004. I remember visiting her studio and seeing early paintings where notes from her father were pasted on the canvas. Fast forward several years and the motif of boats, of journeys, of spiritual quests continues. To commemorate our 25th wedding anniversary, Jennifer offered us a boat from several that she had been working on. (more…)

So as I continue to procrastinate this morning–going through my blog reader, making comments on some of my favorite blogs–I see that a number of bloggers had the good sense to post on the 4th of July. Obviously, they were aware that this is a holiday many people spend celebrating. How did I spend 4th of July? As I usually do, holed up in my room, working on my computer. Virtually, I was away at Camp NaNoWriMo, taking advantage of the day-job-free day to get a big jump on my word count. Other years, I spent at home since my husband and I tend to avoid large unruly crowds. We prefer to enjoy fireworks from a great distance. One year, on a business trip to Washington, DC, we got to see fireworks from our hotel window. We had thought about going to the Mall but when we saw the crowd, I knew that I would have missed the fireworks due to debilitating panic attacks.
When I was a little girl living in the country, I loved 4th of July because we would have a picnic in our backyard and at night I could run around with sparklers. As I got older and lived in urban and suburban landscapes, being around strangers with all manner of fireworks just made me nervous. My husband is the same way, so we spend every 4th of July at home, patiently waiting for the fireworks that our neighbors illegally set off to end. We may grill a steak and and sit on our backporch and try to talk over the crash, boom, and bang, but that’s pretty much the extent of our celebration. Except for last year. Last 4th of July we were in San Francisco, CA, and a couple of friends invited us to a small party in a house on Potrero Hill. The plan was to go up on the roof and watch the fireworks over the city. If you ever have been in San Francisco in July, then you won’t be surprised to know that we were fairly bundled up. Some guests even had the foresight to bring their down jackets. I had a blanket wrapped around me. Still, a great time was had by all. I took movies of the fireworks with my Flip recorder, but they are rather underwhelming. There was fog and very heavy cloud cover so the fireworks had a limited range for viewing. I clipped snapshots of a couple of the highlights.
Despite the cold and the clouds, this was my best 4th of July ever: in a city I love, with friends I love, with the man I love.

What’s this? Another award for moi? I was dumbstruck to receive two awards in as many days. I have to give a BIG thanks to Lissa at http://thelissachronicles.wordpress.com/. She kindly nominated me for this award, and I am truly honored. I love Lissa’s blog and I love that she’s a Supernatural fan 🙂 Without further ado, let me proceed with the rules for this award:
- Include the award’s logo in a post or on your Blog.
- Link to the person who nominated you.
- Answer 10 questions about yourself.
- Nominate 10 Bloggers.
- Link your nominees to the post and comment on their Blogs, letting them know they have been nominated.
Since I am new to this award, I’ll answer some of the same questions that Lissa did.
- Favorite color: Pink; but I wear a lot of black and gray and white … go figure.
- Favorite animal: Cat (domestic)
- Favorite number: 3; I have 3 cats and that seems like an ideal number since I’ve cared for as few as one and as many as six at one time.
- Favorite non-alcoholic drink: Earl Grey tea with a touch of milk and a packet of Equal; it’s what gets me going in the morning.
- Favorite alcoholic drink: dirty gin martini; I had my first one ever two years ago in New Orleans and loved it, and so far, New Orleans is the only place where I’ve had dirty gin martinis
- Prefer Facebook or Twitter: Twitter these days; I have a Facebook account but it’s not as much as fun as it used to be.
- My passion(s): My husband, my cats, my writing, my friends, my knitting
- Prefer getting or giving presents: I prefer giving. I have everything I ever could need or want.
- Favorite city: San Francisco; I only lived there 3 1/2 years, but it feels like home for me whenever I go back.
- Favorite TV show: Supernatural; the boys just get better as they get older 🙂
Drum roll for my 10 nominees:
I notified every one of the nominees. Life is good! Thanks again, Lissa, and thanks to everyone who follows my blog 😉
