  • Emmylou Harris Wannabe

    September 1st, 2013

I love Emmylou Harris. I love her singing, guitar playing, and her hair.

    20130901-135524.jpg

I can’t sing or play any musical instruments, but I have long gray hair. I asked my hair stylist to try and give me the same hair style as Emmylou.

    20130901-135639.jpg

Cody can do wonderful things with my hair, but she can’t make me look like Emmylou Harris. Well, I guess nothing short of plastic surgery could do that … A lot of plastic surgery :)

Now before anyone starts chiding me about wanting to look like someone else, I’ve always been very vain about my hair. (Used to be my legs, but a nasty accident took care of that.) I don’t really want to look like Emmylou Harris (liar, liar, pants on fire!) but I do love her hair. I thought mine had grown out enough for my fav hair stylist to give it a shot. Actually, it’ll take a couple of shots but, in my mind, so far so good ;)

An Interesting history of dystopian literature!

    summerinspire's avatarGreat Writers Inspire

In this guest blog, Dr Oliver Tearle, a lecturer at the University of Loughborough and founder of the Interesting Literature blog (also on Twitter @InterestingLit), examines the history of dystopian literature.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the noun ‘dystopia’ (defined as ‘an imaginary place or condition in which everything is as bad as possible’) first turns up in print in 1952, and ‘dystopian’ (in the word’s most common sense, namely ‘of or pertaining to a dystopia’) not until a decade later. But the first citation for the word ‘dystopian’ in the sense of ‘one who advocates or describes a dystopia’ comes from a speech made in the House of Commons by the Victorian philosopher, John Stuart Mill in 1868. ‘Dystopian’, then, was a Victorian coinage. But recently the noun ‘dystopia’ has been traced back to 1747 where it is spelled ‘dustopia’ but is used in clear contrast…

  • An Interview with Becket, Author of The Blood Vivicanti

    August 31st, 2013

Great interview between two wonderful writers!

Sarah M. Cradit's avatar…and then there was Sarah

BecketI am pleased to welcome Becket, author of The Blood Vivicanti, for an interview. You may be most familiar with Becket on his Facebook page, where he talks about his job as Anne Rice’s personal assistant, his awe-inspiring years living in a New Orleans monastery, and his love of everything geek. Now, Becket can add “author” to his list of life experiences as he introduces us to the first of six installments in the serial novel, The Blood Vivicanti. The serial involves an entirely new and unique set of blood-drinkers, which were born of a collaboration between Becket and Anne Rice.

I hope you enjoy my interview with the charming and lovely Becket, who, on top of everything else, is just an all-around awesome guy to chat with. And thank you, Becket, for stopping by!

Stay tuned after the interview for my review of The Blood Vivicanti…

    .

    .

Excerpts from Legends of Windemere: Beginning of a Hero reviews:

“This was a good book. No, it was a great book. There was adventure, a teensy bit of romance, great characters who were described in wonderful detail, and a story that kept you wanting to read more.” -Pamela Beckford

“I have always loved fantasy. I think the very first series I ever read was the Belgariad by David Eddings. Although it has it’s differences I couldn’t help but be reminded of the Belgariad while reading Legends of Windemere. The main characters are alike. They are both young and full of themselves. I can only imagine how much Luke Callindor will grow though the series.” -Annie2186

“I enjoyed the book. I wasn’t sure about the present tense, but I thought it…

  • Day 2 in full swing – Don’t forget your free e-copy of Rise of a Queen

    August 31st, 2013

Still swinging! Day 2 for a free copy of Rise of a Queen by JS Riddle.

    JS Riddle's avatarJ.S. Riddle

Day one has been a great eye opener and a wonderful social mixer if I may add.  I’m still new at this media thing, but those who have watched me take those first baby steps into the scary world of social media, especially blogging, will tell you that I have come a long way and still have a lot to learn.

And with that, I’m giving the last day of my promotion my gift of word.  Rise of a Queen is still up on Amazon for anybody to download for free, my treat.  Just read, share with friends, please write any kind of review you want (I am not fluent in Klingon so I don’t think that would help anybody that much) whether good or bad; I got big girl britches on so I’m ready for the punches.  In a perfect world I’d live with 5 star reviews, millions of…

  • The Paperbook Blog Needs You!!

    August 30th, 2013

    Opportunity for paperback book reviewers!

    Jayde-Ashe's avatarThe Paperbook Blog

That’s right folks, The Paperbook Blog is seeking guest posters to share with us your favourite books, authors, book stores and all else booky.

Do you love to read? Do you love to write? Do you love to write about reading or read about writing?

Then this could be the guest post for you!

I would like all posts to revolve around Penguin books, (or Penguin published authors, or even your local book store that sells these little gems!), bringing the reviews back to where I started from. They can be Penguins of any genre, but preferably Penguin Classics, simply because they are my absolute favourite. There are hundreds of these guys to choose from, and the beauty is, they’re only $10 each! Make friends with a Penguin, you’ll be glad you did.

  • Beyond Dusk: Anne, a Crimson and Clover Novelette, Now Available!

    August 30th, 2013

A new novelette by Sarah M. Cradit! Now Available!!

Sarah M. Cradit's avatar…and then there was Sarah

My new Crimson and Clover novelette, Beyond Dusk: Anne, is now available on Amazon, for $.99. This will be the first of a series of companion novelettes, each giving glimpses into some of the secondary (but equally important) characters in the series.

So far the short is getting fantastic reviews, to my surprise and delight. One reviewer says it has “rich visual detail, naughty humor, agonizingly realistic characters, unexpected twists, and a generous dash of paranormal.”

Beyond Dusk is a fairly quick read, at just 10.5k words. Although it is a companion novelette to the larger novel, St. Charles at Dusk, it is not required that you have read anything else in the series to enjoy this. Several of the readers enjoying it now are coming into the series with this story as their entry point.
