A few interesting facts about one of my most favorite authors, Edgar Allen Poe. Read on …
Edgar Allan Poe (1809-49) was a pioneer of what we’d now call the ambiguous horror story, where the supernatural elements of the tale may actually be explained (or explained away) with a psychological explanation. He was also an accomplished poet and a pioneer of science fiction. His 1848 prose-poem Eureka even predicts the Big Bang theory by some eighty years. Poe considered this book his masterpiece, though it is among his least-read prose works today.

Wrote with a cat on his shoulder…I didn’t know that. 🙂 Thanks for the interesting facts, Marie!

You’re welcome, Jill. Did you read the comments on the original post? Apparently, there’s some debate over whether it was a Siamese cat 🙂 And, of course, some people are skeptical, but I have seen cats draped over their staff’s shoulders. When I was at the vet one day, a woman came in with her cat on her shoulder. She started saying how she had always wished for a cat that would do that, but this cat did it all the time so now she regretted her wish. The cat was so relaxed too. And I saw a YouTube video of a writer sitting down at his desk to write, when his cat comes up and makes itself comfortable on his shoulders. You could see that he didn’t want to shoo it away, but it did look awkward. I wonder if Poe found it a comfort or an annoyance.

I did read about the debate. Well, I’ve never seen a cat draped over someone’s shoulder, but I believe you. 🙂
