Emmylou Harris Wannabe

I love Emmylou Harris. I love her singing, guitar playing, and her hair.

I can’t sing or play any musical instruments, but I have long gray hair. I asked my hair stylist to try and give me the same hair style as Emmylou.

Cody can do wonderful things with my hair, but she can’t make me look like Emmylou Harris. Well, I guess nothing short of plastic surgery could do that … A lot of plastic surgery πŸ™‚

Now before anyone starts chiding me about wanting to look like someone else, I’ve always been very vain about my hair. (Used to be my legs, but a nasty accident took care of that.) I don’t really want to look like Emmylou Harris (liar, liar, pants on fire!) but I do love her hair. I thought mine had grown out enough for my fav hair stylist to give it a shot. Actually, it’ll take a couple of shots but, in my mind, so far so good πŸ˜‰

    • I’ve avoided bangs for most of my adult life. They grow out so fast! Still, I couldn’t resist changing my style up a bit … yeah, this is my way of living dangerously … lol πŸ™‚

      • It is a style that is very becoming on you. Get a really good pair of hair shears and don’t cut anything else with them but hair, and keep them in your bathroom cabinet, Every couple weeks do just a slight trim across and you won’t have any problems. Just don’t let them get to long first, or you’ll need to go to the hairdresser as it tends to get a bit more complicated not to have them look cropped off when they have grown out so long.

        • Thanks for the tip. I had a friend who went to the hairdresser every two weeks to have her bangs trimmed. I love my hair stylist but that would set me back a bit πŸ™‚

  1. 1. Your hair style looks great!
    2. Emmylou Harris has access to professional lighting and make up artists. If someone took a snapshot of her with kitchen lighting when she’s tooling around at home, she’d look a lot more like the rest of us.
    3. I am confident you won’t be insulted when I say, “On the other hand, she probably is a better singer than you.”
    4. Emmylou Harris has a fabulous voice
    5. I kinda want to hear about the accident you mentioned. Perhaps that is a breach of social etiquette, but humans are naturally drawn to dramatic stories. And I think like a lawyer. That is, you opened the door for that question.
    6. This smiley face πŸ™‚ makes it ok that I just asked a nervy question.

  2. Your hairdresser did a great job–your hair looks great, and the style is very flattering. Maybe EmmyLou will see your photo and hire you as a stand-in. Better practice singing in the shower, just in case!

    • Ha ha … I can barely stop laughing long enough to respond, Candace. Thank you for the kind words about my hair, but I hope you never have the misfortune of hearing me sing πŸ˜‰

  3. You look great! And I admire you for keeping your hair natural. I’m too much of a coward to go grey – I dye mine all the time! My mum was totally white by the time she was 21 so it’s in the family! Thanks mum πŸ˜‰

    • Oh, I colored my hair for years before I finally gave up. Once my hair became so gray that the roots started to show just days after a dye job, I called it quits! Just too expensive by then and then I was never happy with the color. I wanted to go blond before I let myself go all gray but my husband nixed that. So here I am in all my gray glory!

        • I think my hair stylist would have talked me out of it too. When I had dark hair, they would have stripped the color out first and then dyed it blonde. With gray hair, it’s even more complicated. It would be easier to just wear a wig πŸ˜‰

    • Thanks, Jade! I tried to tell myself that I wasn’t fishing for compliments when I made this post, but … I did say I was vain about my hair πŸ˜‰ Do you not really know who Emmylou is? Long time folk and country&western singer. Google her. You’ll be glad you did πŸ˜‰

  4. I’m a huge EmmyLou fan, and have been for years. Always loved her voice and beautiful gray hair. My wife and I love gray hair and she wishes hers was like yours. Unfortunately, she only has a few strands, so no luck for her.

Oh, my contribution to the world of gray? Well, not on my head ‘cuz there ain’t much left. But my beard is going gray nicely πŸ™‚

Anway, thanks for sharing about your love of EmmyLou and gray hair. Wonderful photo of you, btw.
