I remember when I first arrived in Salinas — it was a magical experience for me. I actually own a 1937 copy (not a first edition, but certainly an early printing) of Of Mice and Men.

Cool. I’ve been to Monterey (which I loved by the way … if weren’t so d*mn expensive) but not to Salinas (which is also too d*mn expensive for my eventual fixed income …)
